What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

IELTS is one of the world’s most popular high-stakes English language tests, with over 3 million tests taken in the past year. It is the English test of choice for educational organizations, professional associations and employers across Canada, Australia UK, America and New Zealand.

Choosing the right test

There are two IELTS test available – IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. The you choose should be based on what it is you want to do.

IELTS Academic – measures whether your level of English language proficiency is suitable for an academic environment. It reflects aspects of academic language and evaluates whether you’re ready to begin training or studying.

IELTS General Training – measures English language proficiency in a practical everyday context. The task and tests reflect both workplace and social situations.

What is TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. It evaluates how well you combine your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. It is for people whose native language is not English but wish to study in an international University.

It measures how well a person uses listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. This test is accepted by more than 10 000 colleges, universities, and agencies in more than 150 countries and other institutions worldwide, including universities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.K., the United States, and across Europe and Asia.

The format of the TOEFL test is the CBT (computer based TOEFL test) where People are each provided with a computer to take the test and the iBT (Internet-based test) that is being brought in around the world which measures listening, speaking, reading and writing.

TOEFL Procedure

There are three procedures to taking the test. First it is decided where and when you are going to take the test because the format of the test could be either iBT or CBT depending on location. People need to register 2–3 months in advance to get a place. Second is registration in person, online, by phone, or through email and payment will be required to complete the registration.

What is GRE?

The graduate record examination (GRE) is a standardized exam used to measure one’s aptitude for abstract thinking in the areas of analytical writing, mathematics, and vocabulary. The GRE is commonly used by many graduate schools in the U.S. and Canada to determine an applicant’s eligibility for the program. The GRE is primarily offered via computer; however, in areas which lack the appropriate computer networks, a paper-based exam may be given.

GRE Sections

The GRE includes three key sections meant to measure verbal and quantitative reasoning, and critical writing skills.

The verbal reasoning section analysis your ability to draw conclusions, distinguish major and relevant points, and understand words and sentences, among other things. It’s structured to measure the ability to analyze and evaluate written materials. This section also gauges your capacity to process information gathered from written materials, see and analyze relationships between different parts of the sentences.

In the quantitative segment, your ability to solve problems is measured through the use of concepts of geometry, data analysis, and algebra. You must solve problems using mathematical problems and interpret and analyze quantitative data.

The final section, analytical writing, measures your capacity for critical thinking and analytic writing. How well you can articulate complex ideas and provide effective support for those concepts is tested.

What is GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admission Test is a standardized exam designed to predict how you will perform academically in MBA (master’s in business administration) programs. GMAT scores are used by graduate business schools to make admission decisions.

The Graduate Management Admission Test is an important part of the business school application process. The GMAT is a multiple-choice, computer-based and computer-adaptive standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate business programs (MBA) globally.

GMAT sections

The GMAT contains four distinct section types, although you’ll use the same critical thinking and analysis skills throughout the test, just like you will during your MBA coursework.

SAT

What is SAT?

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board to test your natural ability. The test is intended to assess students’ readiness for college.

SAT Sections

The current SAT covers three required areas and the optional essay:

  • Reading: Test-takers answer questions about passages they read. All questions are multiple choice and based on the passages. Some questions will also ask about tables, graphs, and charts, but no math is required to answer the questions. Total time for this section: 65 minutes
  • Writing and Language: Test-takers read passages and then are asked to identify and fix mistakes and weaknesses in the language. Total time for this section: 35 minutes.
  • Mathematics: Test-takers answer questions related to the types of math you’re likely to encounter in college and your personal life. Topics include algebra, data analysis, working with complex equations, and some basics of trigonometry and geometry. Some questions allow the use of a calculator; some do not. Total time for this section: 80 minutes.
  • Optional Essay: The optional essay exam asks you to read a passage and then make an argument based on that passage. You’ll need to support your argument with evidence from the passage. Total time for this section: 50 minutes.
